Five Reasons Why You Should Pull Your Kids Out of Public School

According to the Word of God, we have a responsibility to direct our children towards the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). Since we understand the serious ramifications of not obeying God, is it wise to trust government-run schools with the responsibility of educating our children? God's Word commands us to teach our children "in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4). We have been instructed to diligently teach our children throughout each day (Deuteronomy 6:7). Is this feasible if they spend the majority of their day learning about things that are contrary to God?

Here are five reasons why parents should remove their kids from Public school...

  1. The majority of students and teachers do not follow God

  2. The curriculum is anti-God

  3. Children are taught to be obedient to the state above God

  4. Children are not taught about their identity in God

  5. The "good" teachers are restricted from sharing the truths of God

Public schools are anti-God

In Public schools, our children are surrounded by a majority of teachers and students who are not followers of Christ. We know that "bad company" corrupts "good morals" (1 Corinthians 15:33). Yet, we still seem to believe that our children can stand firm in their faith, which they haven't fully understood or embraced. There may be rare exceptions, but generally speaking, our children aren't fully prepared to defend their faith against the unbelieving world. How often do our kids actually convert non-believers into Christianity? How often do non-believers convert our kids into human secularism? It seems like we should at least consider the possibility that our kids are unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14) with the unbelievers in Public schools.

We have believed the lie that tells us Public school curriculum is neutral. We've believed the idea that subjects such as history, math, and science are taught in a way that doesn't compromise our faith, but this is simply not true. History is revised to fit the narrative of the government, which is often used to ensure children are good citizens of the state, with little to no mention of God. Math is often taught with examples that include worldly ideas, such as ungodly sexual relationships. Science is frequently taught from an evolutionist perspective, which completely contradicts our Biblical understanding of creation. The reality is that Public school curriculum is anything but neutral. If the state isn't teaching our kids to submit to God, then by default our kids will learn to submit to the state before they submit to God. There is a conflict of worldviews that Christians must recognize is a threat to our children and their faith.

Our kids need to hear the truth consistently

Christian parents sometimes believe they can supplement their kids' education with enough Biblical truths at home in order to neutralize any false doctrine taught in Public schools. And that may be true for some families, to some degree. While we can teach our kids about their identity in Christ at home and in the church, they are likely receiving a much different message at school. This conflicting message is confusing our kids. How can we justify partnering with the state in educating our kids, when the state is attempting to shape our kids' minds to fit an agenda that is anti-God?

Dr. Voddie T. Baucham, Jr. stated it this way... “We cannot continue to send our children to Caesar for their education and be surprised when they come home as Romans.” In a recent blog post, Dr. Baucham urged parents to keep their kids out of Public schools since "it is illegal for students in our government schools to be taught from a Christian perspective". He goes on to say "then it follows that they must be taught from a non (or anti) Christian perspective." He makes a valid point!

We must teach our kids to follow Jesus

While there are still many "good" teachers in Public school, they are restricted from sharing Biblical truths with students. There may be a small percentage of teachers who teach in opposition to such restrictions, but that type of behavior can lead to dismissal. The truth is, many Public school teachers, teach directly from the curriculum generated by the Department of Education. Yes, some of these teachers pray for our children and some of them are great examples to our children. Praise God for those teachers! But there are also some teachers who prey on our children with deception and lies from the enemy.

There may be extenuating circumstances that cause some Christian parents to continue to send their children to Public school. And all parents should have the freedom to choose the type of school that works best for their family. But we must also recognize that Public schools are being used to mold our children into followers of self and not followers of Jesus. We may have to make tremendous sacrifices and large-scale changes to the way we live, but we cannot continue to send our kids to Caesar and expect them to follow Jesus.
